Paris, 20 March 2017 – Five finalists have been named for the MIPFormats International Pitch competition, and will present their original ideas to a prestigious industry jury at the world’s leading entertainment format event next month.
MIPFormats is the incubator for the best in unscripted TV formats, and takes place in Cannes, France, on 1-2 April 2017, ahead of the global entertainment content market, MIPTV, which runs 3-6 April.
Backed for the third time by all3media international, the MIPFormats International Pitch is the industry’s top-flight pitching competition for creators and producers of innovative non-scripted entertainment formats.
The five finalist projects are:
I SANG IT MY WAY
“I Sang It My Way” (Malarkey Media, UK) is an exciting new spin on the music-based shiny floor show – a fun, inspirational competition in which contestants compete to interpret well-known songs in different musical genres.
A reality show from Esuna Casa Audiovisual (Colombia) starring senior adults with one single purpose: to prove that it’s never too late in life to learn new things when your true age isn’t measured in years but by the warmth of your heart.
How far would you go for your loved ones? In each chapter of this show from Anat Nir (Israel), two pairs of people who are connected to each other will challenge their partner to a task that they never dreamed of performing, but always fantasized that they would. Will they do it?
“Popular Belief” (The Concept Collective, USA) is a game show where one player faces a studio audience. Questions are put to the audience, whose answers are displayed as percentages. But which percentage is correct? The audience majority or minority?
THE BEST IN HISTORY
Would we be able to survive as our ancestors did? This reality show from Spain’s Pausoka Entertainment doesn’t take place in a single location, nor even a single year. Each episode of this contest is set in a different moment of the country’s history so we can find the best contestant ever.
The five projects will be presented live on stage to a prestigious industry jury comprising: Fabrizio Battocchio, Format and Head of Factual, Mediaset RTI (Italy); Karin de Groot, Channel Manager, SBS6 (Netherlands); Philipp Schmid, Creative Director/Deputy Managing Director, Tower Productions (Germany); Layla Smith, CEO, Objective Media Group (UK); and Nick Smith, SVP International Format Production, all3media International (UK).
The five finalists were selected by the Short List Judges, chaired by Stephen Lambert, Chief Executive, Studio Lambert, along with Noah Pollack, EVP Non-Scripted, all3media International/Lime, Rachel Glaister, EVP Press and Marketing, all3media International, and Maria Silver, President, Optomen USA.
